L.J HOUSE

A Home Shaped by Memory

A home designed to hold belonging and continuity

Located in Jerusalem, this 115 m² apartment with a 40 m² terrace was designed for a couple at a mature stage in life who chose to leave their life in Toronto and begin a new chapter in Israel. The entire project was planned and managed remotely, with every meeting held over Zoom, requiring a process built on trust, sensitivity, and a precise understanding of their needs.

The goal was clear from the outset: to create a true sense of home. Not only a functional space, but a place that would feel familiar, comforting, and deeply personal from the very first moment.

A central challenge shaped the process. Much of the furniture and personal belongings arrived with the couple in a shipping container, pieces rich with history and emotional value. Instead of replacing them, I chose to integrate them thoughtfully into the design, allowing them to remain an essential part of the home.

Through custom-designed carpentry and a carefully considered material palette, the apartment creates a quiet dialogue between past and present. Existing pieces were woven into a contemporary setting, allowing the home to carry memory while supporting a new way of living.

The layout was planned to be both personal and adaptable, offering everyday comfort alongside the ability to host visiting grandchildren with ease. Every element was designed to feel natural, balanced, and intuitive.

The result is a home that reflects continuity and renewal at once. A space that carries memory while supporting a new chapter of life.
